Lasers are used in a variety of proceedures involving removal of overgrown tissue, reshape gums or teeth whitening. Lasers are also used during deep cleanings and root canals to reduce bacterial counts, treat canker sores or cold sores. Surgeries performed using lasers have minimal bleeding and are less likely to require sutures. In some cases anesthesia many not be required and since laser can sterilize the tissue the chances of infection are reduced. Laser can also provide relief from TMJ pain and sleep apnea.
